A little about me

Hi, I’m Anthony Busa, an Australian author and creator born in Cairns, Queensland. I write fiction exploring love, relationships, identity and the complexities of human nature, alongside imaginative colouring books for all ages. My creativity takes me wherever an intriguing character, compelling story or unexpected idea leads.

My Story

My imagination tends to wander between two very different worlds: emotionally charged fiction filled with unforgettable characters and colouring books bursting with quirky personalities. One idea might lead to forbidden love between Australian outlaws, another to the darker side of Hollywood fame, and the next to a rubber duck dressed as a wizard. I've learnt to make room for all of them.

My colouring books began during a time when I felt something creative was missing from my life. I wanted something of my own, something playful and meaningful that would give me a reason to start creating again. What began as a personal outlet gradually grew into a collection inspired by fantasy, Australian wildlife, music, food and whatever unexpected idea came along next.

One of those ideas was a book full of rubber ducks. Discovering that it connected with readers, particularly in the UK, was a lovely surprise. It reminded me that an idea doesn't have to be grand or serious to mean something to someone. Sometimes a little silliness is exactly what we need.

Writing fiction gives me another way to explore the characters, relationships and emotions that stay with me. I'm fascinated by the complexities of human nature, particularly the ways love, loyalty, desire, jealousy and ambition can bring people together or tear them apart. I'm drawn to imperfect characters, difficult choices and relationships that challenge expectations, whether romantic, familial or something far more complicated.

My stories often explore the lives and relationships of men, from the tenderness of forbidden love to the devastating consequences of betrayal, obsession and the need for acceptance. Some are filled with passion and hope, while others venture into darker emotional territory. What matters most to me is creating characters who feel human, with all their strengths, flaws, vulnerabilities and contradictions.

In Ned Kelly and the Sunburnt Kid, I imagine a private love story beneath a familiar Australian legend. In Boy Lagoon, I explore survival, chosen family and the possibility that home can become a person as much as a place. Brawn and the Beast reimagines a familiar fairy tale through pride, vulnerability and unexpected love, while Daddy, Dearest ventures into the glamour and cruelty of Hollywood, exploring the destructive relationship between a celebrated actor and the son who spends his life seeking his approval.

Although these stories inhabit very different worlds, they share a fascination with the relationships that shape us, the secrets we keep and the lengths people will go to for love, belonging, recognition or freedom.

Across everything I create, I value imagination, emotional honesty and humour. I want my fictional characters to have room to be vulnerable, complicated and imperfect, and my colouring books to give people the freedom to play without worrying about getting everything right.

Away from writing and creating, I enjoy gaming, film and theatre. I love unforgettable characters, atmospheric worlds, compelling performances and a good dose of drama. Those interests continually feed my imagination, often in ways I don't expect. Sometimes a single scene, character or passing thought is enough to inspire an entirely new story.

This website brings those different parts of my creative life together. You can explore my fiction and novellas, browse imaginative colouring books, discover story excerpts and see what I'm working on next.

Thank you for stopping by. Whether you're here for a heartfelt romance, a darker tale of human relationships, a creative escape or a duck with an unusually elaborate costume, I'm glad you found your way here.
